This program is provided as SHAREWARE. You are permitted a reasonable amount
of time to use this program for evaluation purposes only. If after a
reasonable time period (about 30 days) you find this program useful, you are
expected to register this program. Continued use of this program after 30 days
is expressly prohibited and may result in legal action on the part of the
author and developer (see below for address).
This application was designed to be menu-driven as a stand-alone program for
small to medium sized mailing lists geared to community newspapers or
newsletters. This program should be run from at least an IBM XT-compatible
computer with 512K RAM and an available hard drive.
The program can be run from a floppy diskette but space requirements for
additions to the database will be non-existent in a short period of time.
Therefore, running the program from a floppy disk is not recommended nor
supported.
* dBase Users Only: - The *.LBL files are designed to be used with 4" X 1 7/8"
X 1 labels. Use dBase to modify the size of the labels (SUBLIST.LBL to be used
with SUBLIST.DBF, PATRON.LBL to be used with PATRON.DBF). *.DBF and *.LBL are
dBase-compatible files. Caution: Results obtained with this program will be
unpredictable if any of the field names, lengths, or label values are modified.
Only experienced users of dBase should attempt any modification to the *.DBF
or *.LBL files.
After following the instructions contained in the file 'README.1ST',
just type 'SUBMGR' to start the program. Any option can be selected via the
light bar or by pressing the option number. The following notes should be
observed for each option:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OPTION 1 - Will print out choice of mailing labels for subscribers in the
database classified as 'CURRENT' (for mailings to paid subscribers), 'UNPAID'
(for currency payment reminders), or 'ELAPSED' (to renew elapsed subscription).
'CURRENT' subscriptions which will expire within ninety (90) days from the
date of the mailing have the following message printed to alert subscribers
that their subscription is about to expire:
**** TIME TO RENEW ****
The message '**** EXPIRED SUBSCRIPTION ****' appears on the mailing label for
those subscriptions which are past the subscription ending date.
Note: Codes on top of mailing labels provide Subscription Number
("S-<Sub. No.>") and expiration date for easy reference.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OPTION 2 - Will print out either a single entity or the entire listing of
commercial advertisers in the database.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Options 3/4 - Allows for the editing of individual entries in either the
subscriber or commercial account databases. If the subscription or
advertiser number is not found, the entire database is available for viewing
and modification.
When an individual entry is displayed, changes are saved to the database by
holding down the <CTRL> and <END> keys at the same time. to exit without
making any changes, press <ESC> key.
The next screen following the master record entry is where you can attach any
note that you may want to use as a record of conversation with a party,
internal use, or whatever you may imagine. These notes appear whenever the
associated database record is edited. <CTRL><W> will save any new notes added
to the screen. <ESC> will abort any changes made to the screen and any new
data entered will be lost.
When the entire database is being viewed (12 entries are available for viewing
per screen), the following keys are available:
<Page Up> - Previous Page
<Page Down> - Next Page
<Return> or <Enter> - Edits the Current Database Record Field
<ESC> - Exit There are several other key combinations available. Full
documentation is available for those users with a working knowledge of the
(C) CLIPPER or other dBase compatible compiler.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Options 5/6 - Inserts individual entry into either database. These options
employ full-screen editing of a blank record in the database. Subscriber
and commercial advertiser numbers are uniquely generated by enabling this
option. If a mistake is made, either the left arrow key or backspace key
will allow the user to make the necessary correction.
Note: Entries entered without any name information will be deleted the
next time SUBMGR is started up to allow for deletion of records added by
mistake.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Options 7/8 - Generate reports of all subscribers to the printer catalogued
by 'CURRENT', 'UNPAID', or 'EXPIRED'. Also generates reports on advertisers
and patrons.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Options 9/10 - Deletes an individual subscriber or commercial account record
from the database. The subscriber or commercial account number is needed. The
user is prompted to verify the address displayed, prior to record deletion.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Option 11 - Terminates execution of this program.
